ReasonBoard — a one-page summary for schools
For a head teacher or school administrator deciding whether to use ReasonBoard with students, and what to tell parents. PRIVACY.md is the full technical version; this is the part that matters for that decision.
What it is
An app that teaches a lesson on an animated blackboard, out loud, step by step. Students watch on a phone or a shared computer, answer questions, and practise. It keeps working with the internet off once a lesson is saved to the device.
Lessons are written by AI and checked by a person before students see them. A lesson cannot reach a class until a teacher publishes it.
What we hold about a student

We do not ask for or store: date of birth, address, phone number, photograph, parent's details, or a student's email address. There is no advertising, no tracking for advertising, and student data is never sold or shared with anyone outside your school.
Who can see what
- A teacher sees their own classes: the names, the work, the progress.
- Other teachers in your school can see the shared lesson library, not another
teacher's class records.
- Another school can see nothing of yours. Lessons ReasonBoard publishes are shared
with every school; anything your own school adds is yours alone.
- ReasonBoard (the people who run the service) can see the technical operation of
the platform and any message a person sends us. We do not read student work as a matter of course.
What a parent can ask for, and what you can give them

One honest caveat about deletion. The database is backed up nightly. An erasure removes the record immediately from the live system, but a backup taken before the erasure still contains it until that backup is rotated out — typically a couple of days. If you promise a parent complete erasure, say that.
Things to decide before you start
- Consent. Ethiopian data-protection law, and most school policies, expect
parents to be told before a child's schoolwork is recorded in an outside system. A short note home naming ReasonBoard is usually enough. This is your school's call, not ours.
- Who administers it. One person at your school should be the admin: they add
and remove teachers, and reset teachers' passwords. Choose them before you start.
- Student messages. Students can write to ReasonBoard from inside the app. It's
how a child reports a broken lesson. If you'd rather they didn't, tell them to report problems to their teacher instead — there is currently no per-school switch to disable it.
- Devices. It runs on cheap Android phones and any computer with a browser.
Nothing to install, though it can be added to a phone's home screen. A class with no devices can still use it: every lesson and exam prints.
What it costs your school
Nothing during the pilot. If that changes you'll be told in advance — the app will not start charging silently, and nothing stops working without notice.
If something goes wrong
Any teacher can report a problem from inside the app: Settings → 💬 Report a problem. It goes to the people who build it, and the reply comes back in the same place.
